Power Performance Measurements Considerations

Mobile Platform
We measure the laptop power consumption by plugging the AC adapter into a power meter.

• Battery The battery was physically removed from the laptop to avoid skewing the measurement with power consumed by charging the battery (even when you are on AC power, the battery charges a little bit occasionally).
• Fan The laptop fan was run at a constant speed when measurements were taken.
• Screen For all measurements, the screen brightness was set to the a constant low brightness level. This is not the lowest level possible, however at lower levels the usability and readability of the screen is significantly less.

Desktop Platform
We measure power consumption by plugging the power plug directly into a power meter. The Intel SpeedStep® feature of the CPU is enabled in BIOS.

Server Platform
We measure the power consumption by plugging the power plug directly into a power meter. The Intel SpeedStep feature of the CPU is enabled in BIOS. Fan is set to acoustic mode to reduce power consumption.
